Site and Context

The site is located in Ecclesfield, approximately 5 miles to the North of Sheffield City Centre. The site is bounded to the North by residential dwellings on Green Lane, beyond which is a series of industrial units, to the West by residential dwellings on The Common and by open green spaces to the East and South. The Caribbean Sports Club is positioned at the South-Westerly corner of the Club’s cricket field and sports ground. The neighbouring Civil Sports Club facility and sports fields lie to the North, with further open green land to the East. The site is bounded to the rear by private residential gardens and bungalows which largely conceal the existing clubhouse building from street view. Main vehicular access is achieved via a private access road from The Common, where a sign for the Caribbean Sports Ground can be seen to direct visitors to the facilities beyond. This location allows relatively good pedestrian access as the clubhouse sits adjacent to a pedestrian footpath leading from The Common to Green Lane which acts as a primary pedestrian route to the site. The new proposal seeks to provide a fully accessible clubhouse facility in the same location as the existing one.
